UP & FIX — New Jersey

Repair or replace — we'll tell you straight

Garage Door Openers

Opener repair and new installations for every brand — remotes, keypads and safety sensors programmed and tested before we leave.

Opener acting up?

We fix the opener you have — or install the one you actually need

A garage door opener that grinds, hums without moving, or ignores the remote usually isn't a mystery — it's a worn gear, a failed logic board, misaligned safety sensors, or a motor at the end of its life. We diagnose it on the spot and tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense or whether the money is better spent on a new unit.

When it is time for new, we install quiet, modern openers sized to your door across North Jersey — and we program every remote, the keypad and the safety sensors before we pack up.

What we handle

Openers, end to end

Repair, replacement, and everything that talks to your opener.

Opener repair

Stripped gears, failed boards, broken trolleys and slipping chains — diagnosed on the spot and repaired when repair is genuinely the smart money.

Quiet belt-drive installs

If the bedroom is over the garage, a modern belt-drive opener is life-changing — smooth, strong and dramatically quieter than an old chain unit.

Remotes & programming

Lost remotes, new remotes, car HomeLink buttons that never worked — we program them all and wipe old codes so previous owners' remotes go dead.

Keypads

Exterior keypads installed or replaced and coded to your door, so the kids get in after school without a key or a phone.

Safety sensors

The little eyes at the bottom of the tracks stop the door from closing on people and pets. We align, rewire or replace them — and test the auto-reverse.

Battery backup

Openers with battery backup keep working through North Jersey power outages — worth considering when it's time to replace.

Repair or replace? The honest math

If your opener is under ten years old and the problem is a sensor, a remote, a capacitor or a trolley, repair is usually the smart call — and that's what we'll tell you. If the motor or the main gear assembly is failing on a fifteen-year-old chain unit, putting parts into it is throwing good money after bad, because the next failure is already queued up.

That's the conversation we have in your garage, with the price of each path in front of you — never a hard sell. Plenty of UP & FIX visits end in a $0 fix like re-aligning a safety sensor. When people trust you on the small stuff, they call you for the big stuff.

Why openers fail — the usual suspects

The opener does less work than people think — the springs lift the door; the opener just pushes and pulls. So when an opener 'dies', it's often actually a door problem: a door out of balance from tired springs makes the opener strain until its gears strip. That's why we check the door's balance on every opener call — fixing the opener without fixing the balance means you'll see us again in a year.

The genuinely opener-side failures we see most: worn drive gears (the classic hum-but-no-movement), rain-damaged safety sensors, logic boards after power surges, and remotes that have simply lost their coding. All fixable, most in one visit.

What a new opener install includes

A new unit sized to your door's weight and height, the rail assembled and mounted properly, force limits and travel dialed in, safety-reverse tested against resistance, and every accessory programmed — remotes, keypad, and your car's built-in buttons. We haul away the old unit too.

Modern openers are quieter, stronger and safer than what most North Jersey garages are running, and features like battery backup and smartphone control are now standard on good units. Tell us how you use your garage and we'll recommend the right tier — not the most expensive one.

My garage door suddenly stopped opening properly, and I was quite worried about getting it fixed. The technician arrived on time and quickly checked the entire system. Everything was explained in a very simple and clear way before starting the repair. Now the door is working perfectly and feels much safer to use.

My garage door keypad stopped working. I called UP & FIX and the tech was here in 20 minutes with the new part and got my garage door working perfectly. While he was here he fixed a dead-bolt lock that never worked properly. Great company. Excellent service at very good prices.

Good to know

Common questions

My opener hums but the door doesn't move — what is it?

Usually one of two things: a stripped main drive gear inside the opener, or a broken spring making the door too heavy for the opener to lift. Both are same-visit fixes for us — but stop running the opener, because each attempt does more damage.

The remote works but the wall button doesn't (or vice versa) — why?

Those run on separate circuits, so one failing points at wiring, the button itself, or the remote's coding rather than the motor. It's typically a quick, inexpensive fix.

The door starts closing then reverses — is that the opener?

That's almost always the safety sensors — misaligned, sun-blinded or with a nicked wire. Sometimes it's the close-force setting. Either way it's one of the most common and fastest things we fix.

Which opener brands do you work on?

All the common ones — LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Linear and more. Parts availability is rarely an issue, and when a unit isn't worth fixing we'll say so plainly.

How long does a new opener install take?

Typically two to three hours including removing the old unit, dialing in the travel and force settings, safety tests, and programming your remotes, keypad and car buttons.
